Training Course

Training in Transpersonal and Emotional Release Counselling (TERC) is a challenging and exciting adventure in personal and professional development.   The modalities used in TERC serve to bring to consciousness the dynamics of our inner life which shape the way we relate to self, others, the environment and one’s Source, who or whatever one believes that to be.   They take us through our woundings and fears, opening the way to wholeness, awakening us to our hidden potential as human beings, leading to a fuller, more satisfying life.

Experiential approaches of the training course enable an organic flow back and forth between practice and theory, with theory informing the trainee’s counselling practice and practice informing the trainees’ developing theoretical base.

The basic course comprises two levels, each spread over twelve months.   The experiential nature of the training requires an integrated curriculum covering the following subjects:

  1. Personal Journeywork - PERD 01   PERD 02
Offering opportunity for in-depth self-discovery as a paramount foundation for a professional counsellor.
  2. The Theory and Practice of Counselling and Psychotherapy -COPT 01   COPT 02
In which theory is taught hand in hand with practice so that theory informs practice and practice grounds theory. Trainees come to know the factors that make for skilled facilitation critical to sound counselling practice.
  3. Human Development - CUHD 01  CUHD 02
Introduces issues concerning the nature of development, examines the effects of diversity and adversity on children and adults as the develop physically, emotionally intellectually and socially throughout the lifespan.
  4. Spirituality in Counselling - CUSC 01 CUSC 02
Recognising the spiritual dimension as integral to wholeness,
this unit responds to the deepest human urge to a certain
awakening that relates us more deeply to Life in its Source,
so that life can be seen, heard and lived in a new way,
offering greater depth, connection, centredness and wholeness.
  5. The Human Person in Relationship - CUHR 02 CUHR 02
Focusing on relationship as essential to human life and development, where people develop their sense of self and find their place of belonging, where they form beliefs and behaviour patterns which serve or impede their coming into authentic being in the context in which they live.
  6. The Professional in Practice - PROP 02
Dealing with various aspects of professional practice, such as professional excellence, ethical and legal aspects, supervision and ongoing professional development.
  7. Clinical Practice - CLIP 02
In supervised clinical practice the theories, processes and skills of counselling become real for the trainee. They
become aware of what they know, their level of skill and areas of competence that need further development or remedial action.
